Job Description- Kitchen Staff

THE POSITION:
Valley Haven Emergency Children’s Shelter Kitchen Staff will play a key role in preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to the children at Valley Haven in a clean and sanitary environment while embracing and upholding our mission and values

Qualifications

  • Twenty-one years of age or older.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must have commercial kitchen experience or training in the foodservice industry.

  • Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.

  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Flexibility, reliability, patience, and self-motivation.

  • Ability to thrive in a continually changing environment.

  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, interpersonal skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare nutritious, well-balanced, and sufficient meals in a timely fashion and according to the posted menu.

  • Take the necessary steps so that all food is prepared, served, and stored under sanitary conditions.

  • Operate kitchen equipment as assigned and report any malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions in the kitchen.

  • Keep the kitchen and dining room cabinets and countertops clean and floors swept and mopped.

  • Empty the kitchen and dining room trash daily or more often as needed.

  • Keep refrigerators, freezers, ovens, griddle, fryers, cabinets, pantries, and storage areas clean, sanitary,
    and organized and see that preventative maintenance is provided as needed for kitchen equipment

  • Adhere to all shelter policies and procedures.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule based on the needs of the shelter.

  • Tasks may involve walking, standing, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Job Description - Caregiver

THE POSITION:

Valley Haven Emergency Children’s Shelter Caregiver delivers essential basic childcare and supervision to children residing at Valley Haven while embracing and upholding our mission and values

Qualifications

  • Twenty-one years of age or older.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must pass all criminal history and child maltreatment background checks.

  • Must submit to a pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screens when directed.

  •  A Positive Role Model for the children in our care.

  • Maturity to treat children with dignity and respect at all times, in all circumstances. 

  • Mature judgment and an ability to act in an independent, responsible manner in all matters relating to the care and safety of the children

  • Ability to engage and effectively communicate with persons from diverse cultures and communities, as well as from different groups, including children, colleagues, support staff members, supervisors, & administrators, 

  • Care and Supervision for children ranging from birth to 17

  •  Provision of Material, Physical, Spiritual, Emotional, and Disciplinary Needs 

  • Transportation for children in our care to all appropriate facilities, to include medical/health & welfare appointments
